En general, los actuales especialistas prefieren hablar de “hipersexualidad” que de “ninfomanía”. El sexólogo y psicólogo clínico César Menéndez define la hipersexualidad como una extraña anomalía por la cual la mujer nunca llega a experimentar un orgasmo completo y, por eso, se vuelve insaciable.

Hoy en dia el termino se sigue usado peyorativamente, sobre todos por amantes despechados que cuando una mujer es muy fogosa enseguida la llaman de ninfómana. Ningún termino mejor descripto como lo hizo el doctor Albert Kinsley Pionero de la sexología moderna cuando afirma que ninfómana es:
